Only Rus Can Judge Me

band of gypsys

Europe is a couple days away and i'm freaking the fuck out. Way too much personal shit going on, not enough time to get it all under control. 'such is life' i like to say. I think i learned that one from my mother. She also taught me to spend more than i make and worry about today tomorrow. Definitely could have learned worse lessons.

So Brussels convention is oct. 14th-16th. If anyone from brussels is following the news portion of my site, and with almost 110% certainty i can say that they're not, get a hold of me for tattoos. Hopefully you can speak english because i honestly don't even know what language they speak in Belgium. Dutch? I don't even know where belgium is. I know i'll be in paris for a week. if anyone from paris wants a tattoo we'll do that shit scratcher style in my hotel in exchange for red wine and cheese. What could be more french than that?

NEEEEWWWWWWW YYYYYOOOOOORRRRKKKKKKKK
after saying i was gonna come down for well over a year, i'm actually putting shit together finally. all i need is a few people to commit to a weekend and i'll put it together. My friends at 3 kings in brooklyn have graciously offered to host me, so it's really just a matter of picking out a date. I'm thinking sometime in mid Nov. please email me and lets get this thing going.

Winter is almost upon us in Boston. not excited about that at all. rode my motorcycle out to the cape yesterday just for the hell of it. nearly froze my ass off on the way home. Not excited for another winter at all. Thankfully i've got a garage this winter so my free time will be spent working on bikes and with any luck getting back into welding some sculptures. We'll see. This is not relevant to my business life at all, but as anyone who's emailed me about work can attest to, those lines get blurred quickly. This isn't my job, it's my life. Enjoy.

Gravity always wins

How the hell is it almost fall? Seems like just yesterday it was yesterday. Day before that there was snow on the ground. Ugh. not looking forward to another Boston winter. I think those start around late september. Awesome.

14th annual Montreal Tattoo Convention
Super stoked to be doing this again. Easily the highlight of the year for me. Rad city, good friends, smoked meat, poutine. it can't get here soon enough. sept 9th-11th I think? should be epic.

National lampoons european vacation
October will find me and my good friends Jeremy Sutton, Eno and Ricky McGee conquering the great white northern continent of europe. yes, the whole god damn continent... that is neither north, nor white, nor will be conquered in whole, or even sizable portion. Never the less, we will be there and something will happen. If you plan to be in Brussels during the week of the tattoo convention, come see me and get conquered. I'm not sure what the dates are so you're gonna have to do some leg work on this, but it's happening and we'll be there.

I suppose that's all I've got for now. things at the shop are going great. each week finds me busier than the last. getting to do a lot of fun stuff, loving the people I'm working with. thing's couldn't be better. As always, if you'd like something, shoot me an email and we'll make it happen.

can't sleep

Finally got moved into our new shop this week. Congrats to Ram and Juliette for finally getting it all together. I have normal hours these days, so getting work from me is now much easier. Sat-Wed. times vary, email me for more info.

Lot's more stuff going on, but don't feel like typing it out. Come get tattooed, we'll talk about deep shit and it'll be awesome.

k thnx.

with so much trouble in the LBC...

Where to start? Things have been nuts lately. It all sort of crept up on me in that way where you think nothing is really happening in your life until you finally sit down to write a long-put-off letter to a friend and you realize everything is different and new and you were so caught up living it that you didn't even see it happen. it is at that desk, with that pen and that paper that i've find myself writing this. Most of it is unrelated to tattooing, but since tattooing is more or less my life, i figure it all fits in somehow. Details shall we?

Firstly, my girlfriend and I are the proud new parents of a horse. She likes to say we gave birth to her. I find that vision far less pleasing than she seems to. Never the less, it's here and i plan to be the best father i can be, which should be comical since i know dick-all about horses. i cant even remember what kind she is. the white and grey kind? My girl says it's a good one, so i'll trust her. She doesn't bite me when i feed her carrots and she lets me ride her without throwing me to the ground so thus far i'm pretty stoked on it. Admittedly i'd be more excited if the horse fed me carrots, but hopefully that trick will come with time. Anyway, It was a very welcome pick me up in an otherwise cold-as-fuck, depressing winter. if you'd like to see pictures of the horse, send me an email and i'd be happy to oblige. i've got a ton of them.

A few months ago i teamed with up with fashion icon Marc Jacobs Intl to design some t-shirts for a charity in [my former hometown of] Savannah Georgia. For those of you who might not know, that is a pretty fucking big deal. I like to downplay it, cause bragging is a bad look, but my girlfriend always reminds me that i should mention it, so this one's for you boo. Anywho, amazingly we managed to raise almost $200,000 and very soon they will begin construction on a skatepark that's been 10 years in the works. Sure, we didn't cancer or anything, but it's still a pretty rad thing and i was honored to be a part of it. I look forward to the opportunity to work with them again in the future.

Tattooing...
Man, shit got real busy real quickly. For the last few months i've been working pretty sparsely, taking some time to travel and work on other projects. Seems that's come to an abrupt end. Work has been nonstop for the last few weeks. Ton's of big projects...bigger than I usually even like to take on. It's a pretty fun challenge though, and i'm really happy with the stuff i've been doing. Everyone at Fat Ram's has been amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better shop or a better bunch of people to work with and for. Very much looking forward to the future here.

words with friends. do you play it? do you want to get slaughtered? invite me for a game. username: crushrus

Alright, i could go on and on but bedtime calls. thanks for checking the site. spring time soon!

free wifi on airplanes pret much rules

Weird guy in the seat next to me on the airplane keeps staring st what I'm doing. I hate that shit. Eyes on your own page Dude.

Ok, so I am happy, very happy actually, to now be working with the awesome people at Fat Ram's Pumpkin Tattoo in Jamaica Plain, Boston. for the next couple months i will generally be working by appointment only, but starting sometime in march I should be around full time. Between now and then however I hope to get some traveling done also. Savannah and detroit should be taking place in Jan/feb. No set dstes yet, but I'll update as I have the info. With any luck I'll be going out on tour for a week or two in April with some very rad bands. I don't want to jinx it so I'll keep it private for now, but if goes down it should be pretty epic and allow me to tattoo some folks all over the country. Fingers crosse

Hope everyone had a joyous holiday season and all that shit. Here's to a healthy and adventurous 2011. cheers!

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH WE STOLE THIS LAND THANKSGIVING

Back in high school i was what you could call 'punk rock'. well, at least for the first two years, then i just started smoking a lot of pot and didn't really care about taking down 'the man' anymore. I was far more interested in seeing what household objects i could turn into a bong. Long story short: everything.
I'm not sure what the point of that is, other than it's thanksgiving and everyone on facebook is bitching about the capitalistic empire we live in. Wah. I LOVE TURKEY AND MASHED POTATOES AND STUFFING. thanksgiving has the best food of any holiday in the world. even 'tofurkey' isn't half bad if it's cooked right.
Moral of the story? it's the day before thanksgiving, who want's to cook for me?

More updates on my travels and work situation soon.

Bars of Gold

So I am now in boston, occasionally working at Fat Ram's Pumpkin Tattoo in Jamaica Plain. Place is great. Hopefully I can turn it into a full time gig once I get done doing some traveling....

west coast tour

I will be out in LA Nov. 15th-18th, then San Diego 19th-22nd. I'm not sure where i'll be working yet, but i'm sure i'll get in someplace. if you'd like something shoot me an email and we'll make it happen.

There's also a bunch more random traveling, but i don't plan to work so i won't bother discussing it. I'm looking forward to some long drives through the fall though. should be pretty amazing. if i can figure out how to take a picture that's worth a flying fuck, maybe i'll get around to adding the 'photo' section i've long planned/ignored.

bye for now.

when life throws you a curveball, charge the mound and punch the pitcher

i'd originally planned to get a lot of things done this summer.
i didn't.
well, unless you consider drinking and hanging out on my roof deck looking out over the bay. i did a lot of that. i also hung out on boats, caught lobsters, finished my motorcycle and worked with some awesome people.
i guess that means i did get a lot of things done, just not exactly the things i'd planned to do. usually that's the case though. nothing i plan ever works. the things i just show up for though? that stuff is always fun.

MONTREAL
I will again be attending the montreal tattoo convention, sept 9th-12th. if you'd like to book something, get with me. due to the ridiculous prices of alcohol in canada, i will be happy to accept cases of beer as tips. not molson golden though, that shit tastes like glue.

SAILIN' ON
at the end of september i will be moving on to Boston. details are hazy as of right now, but i'll update as i find out. i plan to still do a couple monthly spots here at mooncusser though, so anyone hoping to get things started or finished by me, don't worry, we've got time. I also may find myself in San Diego and Savannah. we'll see.

bye for now.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: GOODBYE/HELLO/STUFF
After two long (long, long) years at california tattoo, deep in the heart of the swampy savannah south, i am moving on. Anyone hoping to get tattooed by me at that shop is still free to contact me and i'll be more than happy to direct you to someone who can hook you up.

As of the 1st of May you can find me at Mooncusser Tattoo in Provincetown Massachusetts. Since you probably don't know where that is, just drive to cape cod, then keep driving. if your car starts filling up with sharks and water you've hit the ocean and you'll want to back up. probably quickly.

Ptown is an eclectic little place known for it's rich art history - rothko, motherwell, pollock and avery all painted there, it's oysters, and most recently as a very gay friendly tourist destination. none of those things may scream 'tattoo' at you, but whatever, the place is fucking cool and i'm super stoked to be spending the summer up there. I won't bother with the backstory of how the move came about, but i couldn't be happier with it. will definitely be 'one for the books' as they say.

If all goes as planned, I will also be spending a week in late june with my friend Katie Sellergren at her shop Mt. Idy Tattoo in BFE Iowa, or missouri or wherever it is. Since i know i have a huge following in either iowa or missouri, i'll be sure to update this when i have even half a clue what i'm talking about.

August or september will find me in montreal for the 13th annual convention up there. i was completely booked up last year (total lie) so you'll want to get your deposits in early for this year.

Ok, that's all for now. hope everyone is well. goodnight.

Green Bay

i will be doing the green bay convention jan 15th - 18th. if anyone will be in the area and wants to get tattooed, lets set something up.
the convention is also being held in a casino, so if anyone would like to get drinks and gamble, we should definitely set that up as well.

infact, to make it more interesting, we could set up an apt and then gamble on the price, double or nothing. who's in?
